Arwen stood in front of the mirror and sighed. Her fingers reached to brush the fresh red mark on her neck gently. "Why did you have to do this? Do you think it’s easy to hide it?" Her eyes were fixed on the man through the mirror, slightly squinted in scrutiny.
Aiden was scrolling through his emails. When he heard, he simply gazed up, his eyes trailing over the line of products kept arranged on the dresser.
"Don’t look at my makeup," she warned, turning around to face him more directly. "You can’t expect me to put on makeup at home. Not only is it tiring, it won’t let me stay comfortable at home."
He watched her before setting his phone aside and getting up, his hands tucked comfortably in the pockets of his trousers. "Who said I expect you to put on make-up? You are beautiful even without it," he said, walking towards her.
Arwen arched her brow and stared at him. "Oh, is it?" she asked as if she was intrigued, but the next moment she pursed her lips and chided. "But Mr. Winslow, right now I am talking about putting on make-up to look beautiful, right? I would have to put it on to hide the art you created on my neck."
Aiden stopped right in front of her; they stood mere inches apart. His eyes stared into hers before it travelled to her neck where he had carefully given her the mark.
"It’s beautiful," he said, reaching to brush his fingers over it. She shivered slightly under his touch, but then composed herself. "There is no need to hide it."
"Oh really?" she asked.
And he looked back at her and nodded. "Art pieces are meant to be showcased, not to hide away."
Arwen felt speechless.
Could she even say something in response to this?
What showcase? What art piece?
Wasn’t he just asking her to be shameless?
Pursing her lips, she slapped his arm off her. Then, putting her hands over her hips, she said, "You want me to show your love bite to the world? Don’t you fear that it might break the hearts of the little lovers you have around you?" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
And with that, she turned to face the mirror. However, in the reflection, she only saw him frown.
"What? What are you frowning at?"
Aiden looked at her, his brows knitted. "What little lovers?"
She paused at that. So, his frown was about this. Arwen wanted to smile at his reaction, but she held back. When she mentioned it like that, she just meant to tease him. Who knew he would feel offended?
"You don’t know?" she asked, raising a brow at him through the mirror. And when she found his frown deepen, she pressed a smile to give him the obvious hint. "We are currently having one under our roof. She might already be waiting for you at our dining table."
Saying that, she didn’t look at him anymore. She simply took the concealer to conceal the mark on her neck. She wasn’t hiding it from Selene. It was just that she didn’t like sharing the evidence of her private moments with anyone.
"It’s almost done," she said, dabbing her finger pad a few more times against the mark, almost making it go invisible under the colour. "We can leave now. After all, it’s not nice to make your little lover wait for long," she teased, and just when she would have kept the concealer back on the dresser, an arm snaked around her waist, pulling her back with force.
She gasped and stared up at the mirror, only to notice his eyes were dark. Her back was pressed against his front and he seemed angry. Very angry.
But wasn’t she just teasing him?
Why was he so worked up over it?
"What are you doing?" she asked, trying to think what she should do to make him understand that she was simply kidding.
Staring at him in the mirror. She sighed internally.
Her husband was handsome and good looking. At every curve of the life, there would always a Selene appearing, she can’t blame him.
If she would have to blame someone, she would have to blame herself. After all, she fell for a handsome, who would always attract attention, even when he doesn’t want it himself.
Shaking her head internally, she exhaled and took up the hair brush to brush her hair once. "She helped Mom once, it’s only good if we let her enjoy a little. I don’t mind her presence for a little while."
"Are you sure?" Aiden asked, looking slight unconvinced.
Arwen gazed at him and nodded, only to see him frown again.
"Then why are you still upset?" he asked, and she narrowed her gaze at him, the brush in her hand pausing in her hair.
"You don’t know?"
He paused, shaking his head.
She turned around and nodded. "Then it’s good. Contemplate it until you come to realize it. Until then ..." She stuffed her hair brush in his hand. "I will stay upset with you."
And before he could say anything, she already walked past him, leaving him behind to dwell.
"Once you recover from your deep contemplation," she said pausing at the door, and then looking over her shoulder, "remember to come to the dining room. It’s already time to dinner, and Ms. Martin must be waiting for you."
