Arwen has come to know and understand Aiden too well. She doesn’t want to exaggerate it, but she was well aware that he would let anything slide but not an attempt made against her.
And that was why she also knew that even though he was sitting —calm and composed, right by her side, still Selene wouldn’t escape his wrath after what she tried.
On one side, Arwen held no sympathy for Selene. She knew Selene deserved every bit of consequence that Aiden was about to force on her.
But then on the other side, when she remembered how Selene once helped Aiden out when she wasn’t by his side, she felt like she owed Selene the last bit of mercy —the mercy that would be a little better than the worst.
Pressing her lips in a thin line, she turned and reached out to take Aiden’s hands into hers. "Husband!" she called softly, a tone that already spoke a lot about her intention.
How could Aiden not realize?
His brows furrowed, and he looked at her, ready to refuse her request.
However, before he could, Arwen spoke urgently, taking his chance. "I am not asking you to let it slide. Listen to me first," she said.
Aiden’s frown didn’t ease.
She took his silence as a cue and continued, "Selene deserves every bit of punishment you have decided for her. For what she tried, we cannot forgive her. And I am not asking you to forgive her. But we cannot just forget what she did for Mom."
"She donated the blood when Mom needed it the most. And for that sake —I think she deserves a little mercy. Not a chance but mercy —mercy that saves her from the worst."
Aiden’s eyes remained dark. His tightened jaw didn’t ease.
Arwen waited for him to speak, but when he didn’t, she sighed. "Fine, I won’t force you into what you don’t think is right. Anyway, she deserved every bit of it. So, even if she faces your worst wrath, it would be all her own doing. She asked for it."
Aiden looked at her, and she nodded.
"Don’t look at me like that. I was never in favour of Ms. Martin," Arwen said, shrugging. "I was just saying, thinking that she had once earned a merit that we cannot just write off so simply."
"Her merit doesn’t provide her the license to act against you." His tone was dark, and the way he said it, Arwen couldn’t retort.
She nodded. "Of course. It doesn’t. I never said it did."
"You never did, and that’s why I am telling you that she would face everything she deserves. She will face everything that would make her regret every bit of her action." Aiden’s words and voice were laced with a fury that was enough to burn a person alive.
Arwen knew he was restraining himself all this time. But to this extent, she never realized.
"Fine, I get it. Do as you have thought. I am not stopping you." She said, patting the back of his hand in an attempt to soothe his anger.
