Elsa stood up and grabbed her purse.

“Athena, that’s all I wanted to say. I know Kerwin was a good man. Honestly, I never truly forgot about him. You always annoyed me, but back then, you really loved him. Kerwin was yours, once. Your pain must be a thousand times worse than mine. I’m sorry.”

She left without looking back, her chest aching with every step.

If it had been her, she would’ve been devastated—maybe even sunk into depression or worse.

Staring off into the distance, Elsa felt hollow. Why did people with power always have to make life so hard for those who just wanted to be left alone?
