Chapter 363: "How dare you?"

Inside Belle’s room in the Dawson’s house, where Lady Louisiana was knocking from outside, Rohan muttered a curse as he took the rope from Rav and began to tie the imposter to the bed swiftly. His voice was low but sharp when he told Evenly,

"Keep them out however you can manage. We can’t afford to let them meet the imposter before my wife returns."

Even before Evenly could reply, the struggling imposter, who was being held down on the bed by Rav, opened her mouth, intending to scream so the people outside, those they didn’t want her to meet, could hear and come in to help her. She didn’t care what kind of life she would live as long as she owned the body and remained alive. If she had to expose the truth that the vampires were planning to kill her, she would do it. As long as someone outside believed her, she could keep this stupid girl’s body forever and find some way to run away with it, where they would never find her.

However, even before the scream rose to her throat, Rohan’s palm clamped tightly over her mouth, shoving the sound back down her throat.

"Not so fast, woman," he hissed coldly. "You will be a prisoner for as long as you are here until I get my woman back. If you know what’s best for you, you won’t dare provoke me any more than you already have by stealing a body that’s not yours."

As much as he wanted to hurt the soul, he couldn’t do so without risking Belle’s safety, and she was somewhere he couldn’t reach, in a condition only this imposter knew but stubbornly refused to speak about.

The soul glared at him, her chest heaving as she tried to pry his hand away from her mouth, but Rohan ignored her struggle. His eyes flicked toward Evenly, and he gave a nod just as the loud, impatient knocking came again.

Evenly, who had been holding Angel tightly against her chest, pressing his head against her so he wouldn’t witness the violent scene, quickly recovered from the shock of everything she had overheard and seen. Her friend’s soul was lost, though she had no clear understanding of what that truly meant. But she knew with certainty that this person was not Belle, not with the expression in those eyes.

She had never truly had any close friend growing up, and Belle had become dear to her in ways she hadn’t expected. Now she resolved to do her best to help her.

Quickly, she set the struggling Angel down on a chair and went to answer the door. She opened it only wide enough to slip outside, shutting it firmly behind her before Lady Louisiana or Eve could enter. She then stood before the mother and daughter, blocking their way as they glared at her.

"Good morning, Lady Louisiana," Evenly greeted with a polite smile, planting herself protectively in front of the door.

The woman frowned deeply, her sharp green eyes darting past Evenly to the door before narrowing back on the vampiress who dared to stand in her way as if she could stop them from going inside the room.

"Why are you the one answering the door? Where is my daughter? I came to see how she is doing," Lady Louisiana remarked, her displeased green eyes hard as stone. What was this vampire doing in Belle’s room? And why had it taken so long to answer the door? The Duchess silently wondered.

Though from what she had observed, Belle had gone and become friends with this vampire. That in itself wasn’t concerning to Lady Louisiana, as she recalled that the instructor who had trained the girl before her marriage had advised her to make as many friends as she could and to get to know the vampires better. But even so, the duchess didn’t like the way this particular vampire was standing in her path.

"Lady Dagon is still sleeping, my lady," Evenly replied smoothly. "She is in great need of rest, and I don’t believe it is right to disturb her. She caught a fever last night, and I had to stay with her. As you already know, she and I are friends, and I am the only one she trusts among the other vampires."

Her tone remained polite, her expression calm, but her words carried a clear warning. She hoped Lady Louisiana would take the hint, that her daughter wasn’t well after what had happened yesterday and needed to rest. But of course, the woman’s frown only deepened.
