Chapter 258 – Don’t Let Her In

–LIA’S POV–

“Mom?” I asked, my heart raging in my chest. “Hello? Mom!”

“Lia, let’s go,” Zane said, standing up and taking my hand to pull me to my feet.

“My house,” I said.

Zane nodded. “I know. I heard. Don’t worry, everything will be

fine.”

We dressed and rushed out of the school, my legs trembling as we hurried to his car.

Zane sped all the way to my place, running traffic lights and swerving around cars.

I kept staring at my phone, watching the time, calculating how long it was taking me to get there. To protect my parents from the one who gave birth to me.

Zane had barely even parked the car outside my house when I climbed out, running to the door. I rang the bell four times in a row, taking deep breaths to stay calm. My eyes heated up and cooled repeatedly, and I squeezed them shut so they wouldn’t start glowing in Mom or Dad’s face.

The door opened a moment later, and I heaved a sigh of relief when Mom stepped forward, unhurt and absolutely fine.

“Mom,” I breathed, throwing my arms around her and pulling her into a hug.

She hugged me back, tapping my back, confused.

“Honey?” Dad asked as he came to the door. “What are you doing here so late at night?”

I pulled away from Mom and entered the house, followed by Zane. “Where is she?” I asked, looking around.

Dad frowned. “Who?”

Dad clicked his tongue and glanced at Mom, who lowered her

gaze.

“You told her?”

“Of course I did,” Mom muttered. “It is her right to get to know her mother.”

“You’re my mother,” I said, taking her hands in mine. “Okay,

“There is never a reason to give up your baby and then never

even visit them for seventeen years,” I replied. “Next time, if she comes by, do not let her in.”

Mom frowned. “Why?”

“Because I’m telling you not to,” I stated. “I met her, Mom. And she’s nothing like I imagined.”

“When did she even leave?” Dad asked. “She was here ten minutes ago. I left to the go to the bathroom and I come back and she’s gone.”

“I told you,” Mom replied, turning to him. “She found out I told Lia so she left.”

“Did she say why she didn’t want you telling Lia?” Zane asked.

Mom stared at him for a moment, then shook her head. “She didn’t say anything. Maybe she didn’t want Lia to get mad. She did come here really late at night.” She looked at me again, her gaze lowering to my clothes. “What are you wearing?”

“Zane’s clothes,” I muttered, my cheeks heating up.

An amused smile stretched across her lips.
