Zane’s shirt hung low on my thighs, brushing against my knees every time I moved.

It smelled like him—like warmth and something wild.

He’d insisted on dressing me himself, even though I could’ve easily done it. But he said it was tradition, something about mates and first times and how he wanted to do it right. I hadn’t argued. His hands had been gentle, and as he buttoned the shirt, he’d stared at me like I was something beyond this world.

Now we were lying side by side on the library floor, tangled in each other’s arms. My head rested against his arm as we both stared up at the ceiling. There were no stars or the moon—just an old, dusty wooden surface that was probably hiding a dozen cobwebs.

I reached out and pushed a strand off his forehead.
