As Oliver's lips hovered over her, feeling Josefina's trembling underneath him, he paused, pulling back from his wolfish advance.
Lifting his head, he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. His voice, husky and tender, whispered, "Don't worry, I'm not planning to devour you just yet."
Josefina, flustered, asked, "Then what are you doing?"
With a light chuckle, Oliver teased, "Just whetting my appetite?"
Josefina was left speechless...
Oliver rolled off and pulled Josefina back into his arms, holding her tightly. Pressed against him, Josefina could feel the firm contours of his body and instinctively tried to inch away.
But Oliver pulled her even closer. "Josie, you can't leave me."
Forced back into his embrace, Josefina's blush deepened with every heartbeat. After a while, her emotions began to settle.
"Oliver, I need to get back. I promised Master I'd stay an extra day, and I have plans to set sail with Grant tomorrow."
"Sailing is dangerous; I won't allow it," Oliver said firmly.
"I've spent time at sea before. I'm a good swimmer; why can't I go?" Josefina protested.
"You can't go with Grant. Haven't you noticed he's got a thing for you? Josie, if you don't feel the same, you can't lead him on. It'll only end in him getting hurt."
Josefina was bewildered. "He likes me? Impossible! We're like siblings; how could he possibly—You're overthinking it."
"Josie, never underestimate a man's intuition. I'm dead right about this. He's into you; you just haven't noticed."
Josefina was dumbfounded. The thought had never crossed her mind.
Back when she was with the Antonio family, she had a brother who got into trouble and fled abroad. He didn't like her at all and often played cruel pranks on her, making her loathe him.
As she considered her options, Oliver sat up, his handsome face looking pitifully helpless. Such a beautiful face should be smiling, she thought.
Suddenly, Josefina felt like the villain, toying with Oliver's affections.
"Alright, I'll take you to meet Master tomorrow."
Overcome with excitement, Oliver tackled her down, his demeanor swiftly changing.
"Josie, should I bring something for your Master? If all else fails, I could gift him the entirety of Lucifer's Breath and see how much they can grow on Rose Bay Island. Whatever amount he wishes, he shall have."
Josefina was speechless...
That was the signature bloom of Demon's Isle, after all.
