Garrett was happily munching on the homemade dumplings Annika had crafted, his eyes lighting up with every bite. "You've gotta try these, they're Annika's special potstickers. We’re all pretty hooked on them."

Reid couldn't resist and wolfed down one, then two, then three. His face beamed with satisfaction.

Hattie chuckled, shaking her head at Reid's insatiable appetite. "Reid, you're eating like you've been starved for days! Haven't you had a decent meal lately?"

"I have, but nothing beats home cooking. Been too swamped to enjoy a proper meal lately. And I gotta admit, nothing compares to the food here at home."

Stuffed and content, Reid’s curiosity got the better of him. "Did we get a new cook? What happened to the last one?"

Hattie recounted the recent events, leaving Reid utterly flabbergasted.

"No way! I thought she was all humble and honest. Just goes to show, you can't judge a book by its cover!" Reid exclaimed in astonishment.

"Josie's incredible. She's got our family's knack for business," Reid praised with a hint of pride.

Lena stood by, slightly annoyed, as the conversation unfolded.

Reid then announced, "Mom, Dad, I’ve got to step out for a bit."

"Out again? What are you up to these days, Reid? And your tech startup hasn’t tanked yet?" Hattie asked with a teasing edge.

Reid couldn't help but smile at his mother's blunt humor. "Mom, my dear mother, my tech company is doing just fine. Don't you trust my abilities? This competition I'm in, though, I've come up against a tough contender—JoyLife Tech. They're relatively new but have their hands in pharmaceuticals as well. They’re a force to be reckoned with."

Dorian, about to leave, overheard and chimed in. "Doesn't sound like you've got great odds of winning."
