Fia stood to the side, her eyes darting around in panic, her lips sealed shut in fear.

Lena felt like her world was collapsing. Clutching her smartphone, her face contorted with rage and confusion.

"What the hell is going on! Why is my card blocked? My funds are frozen!"

Fia's voice trembled as she spoke, "Miss Josefina, maybe you should call the bank to check what's up, and then give your folks a ring."

"The bank's closed, and I tried calling the manager, no answer. I bet it's my dad's doing! The supplementary card he gave me, why would he screw me over like this?"

Lena dialed Garrett, her father, her fingers shaking as the phone rang.

"Hey Dad, my bank card's been frozen," Lena blurted out as soon as he picked up.

"Frozen, huh? I had no clue. Let me call the bank and see what's up," Garrett replied, feigning ignorance.

"Dad, it's super weird. Even the supplementary card you gave me is blocked," Lena pressed, her voice edged with urgency.

"I'll check on it."

Lena waited anxiously, and soon Garrett called back.

"Sweetie, looks like some hackers targeted my accounts, trying to swipe my cash. It's caused a bit of a mess, but it should be sorted in a few days."

Lena wanted to confess she was broke, but feared Garrett might read too much into it.

The Harrisons had been generous with their support, and crying poor under these circumstances seemed a bit off.

"Do you need some money, Lena?" Garrett asked.

Lena's spirits lifted, "Dad, I—"

Before she could finish, Garrett cut in again, "Lena, you surely don't need cash. We've given you enough to last a lifetime, right? Get some rest, honey. I need to go sort out my accounts. Can't have my money tied up, can we?"

With that, Garrett hung up, and Lena was left feeling like she was walking a tightrope without a net.

Looking up at Fia, Lena asked, "Did grandma say she was pushed down the stairs? Did she mention who did it?"
