On the way back, Zachary supported Sarah. "Your birthday's in two days?"

"Did Mia tell you?"

"Why didn't you invite me?" Zachary's voice was subdued.

Sarah didn't answer, and Zachary didn't push further.

Back at the stables, she caught Vivian's eye and walked directly to her. "Let's talk."

"Of course." Vivian followed her to a corner without hesitation.

"Why did you do it?" Sarah demanded.

Vivian feigned innocence. "I don't know what you mean."

Sarah took a deep breath. "Vivian, you were the only one behind my horse. You used a needle, didn't you?"

Sarah's smile was cold, sending a chill through the air.

Everyone listened nearby as Vivian smiled thinly. "Horses often get spooked at riding grounds. It's not unusual."

Sarah's expression darkened. "So you're denying it?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Vivian looked down at Sarah from horseback, as if regarding an insect.

She stroked her riding crop slowly. Zachary tensed, knowing Vivian was angry.

Sarah and Vivian locked eyes, neither willing to back down.

Charlotte rushed to defuse the situation. "Miss Sanders, you need evidence to make such accusations."

"Indeed. Don't worry, Miss Wilson. In Saint Nock, someone tried to frame me, but they paid the price. I wonder if you know about that?" Sarah's smile was dangerous, her eyes sharp.

"You should be careful, Miss Sanders. There might be more people who want to hurt you." Vivian's gaze was steady.

Zachary stepped in front of Sarah. "I'll protect her, no matter how many people try to harm her."

Vivian's eyes flickered as she gripped her crop tighter.

Zachary led Sarah to rest nearby, with Mia following anxiously.

Sarah was still shaken, her hands trembling.

Lucy lunged at her. Still weak, Sarah couldn't react in time as Lucy pushed her into the river.

She struggled instinctively, terrified by Lucy's expression.

As she hit the water, her memory flashed back to two years ago.

By the river, a familiar face had startled her.

It was her!

"Die!"

That person had pushed her. She'd grabbed their arm, scratching it deeply.

The splash had been enormous. As the current pulled her under, she'd clenched her fists.

She fought desperately, but each struggle pulled her deeper.

She forced her eyes open, but the shadowy figure had already fled.
