The freezing water wrapped around her like icy claws, an invisible hand seemingly choking her throat.

Suffocating. Still suffocating.

Why did Lucy want to hurt her when she'd tried so hard to be kind?

Why push her into the river right after they'd made plans to go shopping together?

Cold water surrounded her as she sank, unable to open her eyes in the murky river.

Another splash sounded, and this time strong arms grabbed her. Instinctively, she clutched their wrist, desperately holding onto this lifeline.

Before losing consciousness, she felt a sharp pain in her fingers.

She woke up in the hospital with Scarlett caring for her.

"How did you fall in?" Scarlett asked when she awoke. "Did you fight with James? Even then, you shouldn't jump in."

She remembered clearly - someone had pushed her!

Only she and Lucy had been by the river!

It wasn't an accident. Lucy had pushed her.

Suddenly, she remembered grabbing Lucy's bracelet as she fell. Where was it?

"Scarlett, who brought me to the hospital? Did you see a bracelet in my hand?" Sarah asked urgently.

Scarlett thought for a moment. "A Good Samaritan brought you in. We don't know who. You were clutching that bracelet so tightly during treatment, the nurses barely got it away. They gave it to me."

Mrs. Chancer shot Scarlett an irritated look. "Miss Lin, I know you're Sarah's friend, but outsiders shouldn't meddle in family matters. This is between them."

"Scarlett is my best friend, my family. She has every right to speak," Sarah said coldly.

Scarlett straightened her back as Sarah turned to Lucy. "Where were you yesterday?"

"Me? I was home, of course."

"Not at the bar?"

Mrs. Chancer stepped in front of her daughter. "How dare you? What bar?"

She glanced at the door, relieved to see it closed.

"Don't make accusations. I never approved of your marriage to James. If you're going to be part of the Chancer family, you need to protect its members. Lucy is James's sister - he won't forgive you for speaking about her this way."
