Steven followed Scarlett to the villa entrance, his pace urgent. Without hesitation, he banged on the door with enough force to rattle it. The same man who had earlier barred Scarlett from entering reappeared, trying to stop them again, but Steven wasn’t the type to back down easily.
Steven shoved the door open, and as if on cue, three or four men stepped out of the sleek black car parked nearby and approached the villa guards. Within moments, the guards were overpowered and left sprawled on the ground.
Just as the last of the guards fell, another car—a black Porsche Cayenne—screeched to a halt in front of the villa, its presence commanding attention. Zachary stepped out, his expression dark and furious. Behind him, two black SUVs followed, carrying a dozen men in sharp suits. They filed out and fell into step behind Zachary as he stormed into the villa.
Steven, catching sight of Zachary’s demeanor, immediately understood the gravity of his anger. “Sarah is on the second floor,” he informed him quickly.
Scarlett, her voice breaking with panic, cried out, “Hurry! Sarah is surrounded by several men! That lunatic said there are six cameras in the room!”
Zachary’s expression grew even colder. He didn’t need Scarlett to elaborate; he knew exactly what she meant.
---
Inside the room.
Sarah gasped for air, her breaths uneven and filled with despair. She swung the knife in her hand with all her might, trying to fend off the men closing in on her. But she was running out of strength. It didn’t take long before the knife was wrested from her grip.
“Get away! All of you, get away from me!” she screamed, her voice hoarse with desperation.
A tear slid down Sarah’s cheek as a flood of memories washed over her.
She recalled a time when she had been trapped in an abandoned factory, surrounded by men. Their eyes had burned into her, filled with predatory hunger. Every sound, every sensation, had seemed amplified as if her body were betraying her by heightening her awareness of their leers.
The memory shifted. She was now in a stark, empty room. Her body was exposed, vulnerable under the glaring lights. The white walls seemed to sprout hundreds of eyes, all of them fixed on her. Their gaze was filled with a raw, unsettling desire, their bloodshot eyes mirroring her helplessness.
Then came the blood—thick and vivid, staining her memories like an indelible mark. The crimson hues began to expand, filling every corner of her mind until all she could see was red.
Sarah clutched her head in both hands, as if trying to shield herself from the onslaught of horrific images. With a jolt, she snapped back to reality, her breathing ragged. She tried to calm herself, but the fear only tightened its grip.
The men in the room were closing in on her. Her panic surged as they drew closer. And then—
BAM!
A deafening crash shattered the suffocating silence. Someone had kicked the door open with enough force to shake the room.
For Sarah, the sound exploded in her mind like a thunderclap, and the world around her seemed to erupt into chaos. The overwhelming red in her mind grew brighter, threatening to consume her entirely.
And then there was Zachary, stepping out of the villa with Sarah cradled in his arms.
“How is she? What happened?” James’s anxious gaze darted toward Sarah, worry etched across his face.
Zachary ignored him, his expression cold and focused. Scarlett, standing nearby, answered instead, “She fainted. We’re taking her to the hospital. Don’t come along.”
Her tone was uneasy. After all, it was Scarlett who had called James for help earlier, only because she hadn’t been able to reach Zachary at the time.
Scarlett couldn’t shake her guilt. Sarah would definitely not want to see James when she woke up. And as for Zachary? Scarlett wasn’t entirely sure about him either.
---
At the hospital, Sarah was rushed into the emergency room.
Zachary hesitated briefly before calling Melvin. After all, Melvin was Sarah’s family, and he had a right to know.
Meanwhile, Scarlett stood to the side, quietly sobbing. “This is all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Sarah would never have gone to the Luthers’.”
