“Miss Sanders won’t blame you,” Steven said nonchalantly, trying to ease Scarlett’s guilt.

As they left the hospital, James sat in his car with a heavy expression. While making a turn, he caught sight of a familiar vehicle. His brows furrowed—it was Lucy’s car.

Could this entire incident have been orchestrated by Lucy?

Fuming, James drove straight home. He stormed upstairs, kicking open Lucy’s door. “Get out here!”

His voice was cold and distant, as if addressing a criminal.

Startled, Lucy looked up at her brother, her body trembling as she stood. “James? What’s wrong?”

Mrs. Chancer had stayed home instead of going to her usual card games. Hearing her son’s angry shout, she hurried upstairs to shield her daughter. “James, why are you treating your sister like this again?”

“Where were you today?”

“I was home all day. I didn’t go anywhere!” Lucy avoided his eyes, and her hands trembled slightly.

James’s tone grew harsher. “Stop lying. Tell me the truth—where did you go today?”

“James, even if Lucy did drive to the estate, there’s no need to accuse her like this!” Mrs. Chancer snapped, her patience wearing thin.

She couldn’t help but feel irritated with James lately. Ever since that woman, Sarah, came into the picture, he had been constantly at odds with the family, especially with Lucy. It was as if Lucy had done something unforgivable, and Mrs. Chancer was tired of it.

“Mom, something happened today at the Luther Estate,” James said, his voice heavy. “Sarah was hurt. Melvin and Zachary are furious, searching for answers like madmen. She’s already been rushed to the hospital. If it turns out that Lucy was behind this, do you really think they’ll let her go?”

James’s face was clouded with worry and anger. His mind swirled with disappointment and frustration. He had warned Lucy countless times to stop causing trouble, but she never listened. Every time he had bailed her out, it only made her feel like she could act without consequence.
