Michael shook his head. "How's Dad doing?"
"Out of danger, but it hit him hard." His mother paused before continuing. "I've wanted to tell you - your father and I understand why you wouldn't marry because you loved her. But think about us. We're getting old, we can't help you much longer. If the company falls, your father might... Even if not for me, think of your father. After what Wilson Industries did, she's not worth it."
Before they could say more, the guards came in to escort his mother out - visiting time was over.
Just before she left, Michael called out, "Mom! I need to see someone."
A few days later, Sarah walked into the prison wearing casual clothes. In the visiting room, Michael was already waiting on the other side of the table.
Sarah approached emotionlessly. “Made up your mind?”
Michael took a deep breath. "My mother told me everything. It matches what you said."
He paused before continuing. "I'll tell you the truth, but you have to help the Luther family."
For Sanders Group, this was trivial. For Luther Corp, it could be their turning point.
After thinking for a moment, Michael finally spoke, "You're right - Vivian came to see me that day. Miss Sanders, you're very clever. I don't believe you figured out so much just from a graduation photo. But yes, Vivian was the one I loved."
"I fell for her the first time I saw her in high school. She was beautiful, exceptional. Too exceptional, really. She’s surrounded by elites like Zachary. But none of that could stop me from loving her."
His expression grew distant. "That day she came asking for help. I'd confessed to her long ago - she knew how I felt about her, probably thought it was just puppy love. That's probably why she asked for my help. She told me she didn't love Zachary, that Zachary loved you, but both their grandfathers wanted them together. She said if something happened to provoke Zachary, he might marry you immediately. Then her grandfather would leave her alone, and we could be together."
