Sarah glanced secretly at Zachary and saw that he looked almost as uncomfortable with Charlie as she felt. This confirmed her suspicion that Charlie must have something Zachary wanted.

After dinner, Charlie glared at his wife and Sarah. "Meal's over. Women, clear out now! We men have business to discuss!"

Mrs. Wesler hurried away with the dishes, not daring to delay.

Sarah gave Zachary a long look before turning to leave.

Zachary watched her go, lost in thought. When he turned back, Charlie was leering at him.

"Bro, what do you think? Like that woman? Need your brother's help? We could knock her out, have your way with her, and she'd be yours for good." Before he could finish, he caught Zachary's ice-cold stare and instinctively fell silent.

Charlie quickly laughed it off. "Look at my big mouth! Let's talk business. Bro, could you come with me to the den again? Strange thing about that place - after winning a few thousand my first time, I never won again until you showed up. How about this: we split the winnings fifty-fifty? Just help a brother out!"

He wore a fawning smile, but Zachary asked distractedly, "You still have money to gamble?"

"Got a thousand left in my pocket, but that's off-limits. When my next paycheck comes, I can gamble again!"

"Where do you work?" Zachary asked.

Charlie didn't hide it. "The Sanders factory! The biggest one in West Ridge. Though it hasn't lived up to that name in recent years. Still, headquarters definitely won't abandon it."

Zachary asked casually, "Besides the Sanders factory, are there no other factories in West Ridge?"

Years ago, West Ridge had numerous factories. After the explosion, Wilson abandoned the area completely.

Zachary wanted to uncover the truth, and clearly Charlie knew something.

Charlie smiled. "Sorry if I seemed tense. It's no secret - everyone in the village knows about the abandoned factories around West Ridge. Anyway, that's enough talk."

As Zachary prepared to leave, he couldn't help glancing toward Sarah's room.

Charlie immediately understood. "Bro, just be straight with me. You like that woman, don't you? I liked her too at first, but she's from the big city - she'd never look at someone like me!"
