The next morning, Charlie handed over the last two thousand dollars he had managed to scrounge from his house to Manager Sullivan. After groveling and pleading, it took quite a while before Sullivan finally decided to let him off the hook.

Sarah sat in her office, her eyes fixed on the computer screen displaying an email reply from headquarters. The report about the equipment malfunction had been approved, and the request for new devices granted. The board of directors hadn't opposed it, which came as a surprise.

Outside the office, Charlie passed by the door, his mind still reeling from Sullivan's earlier warning.

"You've got one more chance. Sarah Sanders is sharp. If you fail again, pack your bags and leave!"

He clenched his fist, determined not to fail this time.

At six in the evening, Sarah was about to leave for the day when, to her surprise, Charlie was waiting outside, calling her over. "Hurry up and eat! My mom made dishes specially for you. I know I messed up last time, but please don't hold it against me."

Feeling suspicious, Sarah followed Charlie to the dinner table. She noticed it was covered with meat dishes. Before she could even pick up her chopsticks, Charlie approached with a bottle of wine. "You're from East Coast, and part of the Sanders family. You must attend lots of social events, and you're probably no stranger to drinking. Today, do me a favor and have a few drinks with me."

Before Sarah could respond, Charlie poured wine into her glass without waiting for her approval.

Sarah frowned. "What exactly is going on here?"

Why had Charlie prepared so much food and even brought wine for her?

Less than two minutes later, Charlie returned with his parents and they sat down together.

This time, Sarah took the initiative to lift her glass. "Actually, since I've been staying in your house, we really don't have any bad blood. If the mayor asks me anything, I'll keep my word and won't say anything."

She drank the wine in one go, and Charlie, pleased, did the same. But after just two cups, Sarah was already starting to feel the effects.

Charlie quickly grabbed his own glass and tossed it away, then helped Sarah to her room, a wicked grin on his face.

Moments later, there was a knock on the door. Charlie had originally intended to take advantage of the situation and had his hand lingering on Sarah's face, but before he could do anything, he hurried to open the door.
