When the call connected again, Sarah asked impatiently, "Zachary! What exactly do you want? You seem to have forgotten your position. Do I need to remind you?"
"Sasa, why do I see you everywhere but can't touch you?" he asked in confusion.
Clearly, Sarah had no idea what Zachary was talking about. She thought he was playing games with her. "You're the marvellous Mr. Reynolds,Vivian's fiancé. Have you forgotten your engagement ceremony is just a week away?"
Zachary frowned deeply. He knew that, but at this moment, he didn't want to think about any of it.
He didn't respond. Sarah felt a moment of frustration. She was tired of being dragged into Vivian's schemes and tired of the things Zachary always refused to say.
Beep, beep, beep!
Zachary lowered the phone dejectedly. She had hung up again.
He called back, but no one answered. Panicking, he dialed several more times. On the third attempt, she finally picked up.
"Zachary! If you call again, I'm going to block you on my phone." Zachary's heart trembled. He could no longer control his shivering. His voice carried a tremor, and the sound of his chattering teeth traveled through the phone.
Sarah finally noticed something was wrong. Her tone grew serious, "Zachary! Where are you? What's happened? Talk to me!"
"I'm fine, Sasa. You have to believe me." His voice grew increasingly weak. "Don't hang up, please? Just for a while. I won't talk."
In the end, Sarah didn't hang up.
She put the phone aside, occasionally hearing mumbling coming through the line.
Two hours passed. In the Void Bay villa, a man lay in the bathtub.
His eyes were tightly shut, as if he had passed out from the cold, his breathing steady but weak.
A phone lay beside his ear, asking, "Zachary? Say something! Are you there?"
"Sarah, I'm fine. I was just lost in thought," Mia replied, coming back to herself.
Lost in thought?
"But we just met. Mia, what's really going on?" Sarah felt there was more to it than Mia was letting on.
As soon as she finished speaking, Mia looked up with a face full of tears.
"Sarah, I saw it." Her words carried shock and anger.
Sarah was completely confused. "What did you see?"
Mia said between sobs, "The investigation results from West Ridge, and all those... pieces of evidence."
She had seen everything, not missing a single detail, and her brother had personally confirmed it was all true.
