Chapter 377: Severance of Soul (II)

"Never thought that I would see a day when you would stand up for me."

Killian broke the awkward silence, causing Noah to glare at him. He saw the lips of the man move as he cursed him silently before he, too, took his leave and walked out of the office, closing the door behind him with a bang. Once he was gone, the sly smirk on Killian’s lips slid down. His expression turned solemn. "It seems like the elders are going out of their way to hide the truth. Aren’t they?"

Seth sighed heavily. "Which only proves my point. They will not let this matter slide. It will be hard for them to overlook your actions. You are very lucky that both Elder Norman and Jones made a mistake. Without them backing you up indirectly, the elders would have had a field day."

"But at the end of the day, they did make a mistake. Elder Norman can put forth his case, but with the only lead dead, the chances of him winning are not really high."

"You could have simply killed the half-vampire who was the cause of the mess. There was no reason for you to kill all those men; you could have avoided the trouble by simply letting them live." Seth’s white eyes didn’t look away from Killian.

Killian smiled upon hearing Seth’s words. He said, "You are right, I could have let those men live, but I didn’t because if you look past the incompetence of the bloodsucker, you will realise that the entire prison building is now out of your control. Someone certainly tipped that vampire off and asked him to either kill the suspect or forcefully wrench out a testimony. Either way, they wanted to shut the case down before things went out of control. Which they did go out of control because I found something interesting."

"Interesting? My, I need to hear this because it’s not every day when you tell me that you found something interesting." Seth interlocked his fingers and waited for Killian to start speaking.

Killian tilted his head to one side. He recalled the bits and pieces of information that he gathered from the pack link when it opened and asked, "Have you ever heard about witches who can split their souls into pieces and possess human bodies as their new vessels?"

"I have heard about them a little," responded Seth. His eyes were narrowing slightly. "But where did you hear about this? This is really dark magic. Really dark. Not many will be able to do it. Not unless they offer something in exchange. A price too hefty for any mortal to bear."

"A price?" Killian echoed. When the head of the council continued to look at him, Killian waved his hand and said to the man, "Don’t look at me like that; I didn’t do anything. A rather annoying birdie told me that the witch who caused the massacre at the Silver Dawn Pack is someone who can split her soul into several pieces. Turns out that destroying their vessel is just a waste of time."

Seth leaned back on his chair. "Indeed. That’s because they are using the soul of their vessel as a shock absorber. Even if the body that they are occupying dies, their soul will be fine."
