“Mom!” Penelope rushed over and threw her arms around Nora.
“Dad, how could you hit Mom?!”
The Sinclairs were stunned. None of them had expected Gabriel to raise a hand against Nora.
“I can’t believe I ever trusted you! Cecilia considered you her closest friend, and this is how you repay her?”
Gabriel’s gaze was a mix of disgust and disbelief, as if he simply couldn’t accept that his sweet and innocent muse was capable of something like this.
A faint, mocking smile tugged at the corners of Anastasia’s lips.
Righteous, aren’t you? Acting like you’re the voice of justice. But after so many years together, could Gabriel really not know what Nora was truly like? Not for a second did Anastasia buy it.
In her previous life, Nora and her daughter had hurt her terribly, and Gabriel had stood by and let it happen. He was hardly one to talk—he was just as rotten as Nora.
“Anastasia! How could you accuse my mom like that? Hasn’t she always treated you well?” Penelope was too intimidated to challenge Gabriel, so she spun on Anastasia instead, her voice trembling with anger.
“What did I say that wasn’t true?” Anastasia shot back calmly.
Penelope opened her mouth but had no answer.
Anastasia glanced at her watch, her patience running thin. She still needed to get home and spend time with her husband—she’d wasted more than enough of her day on this circus.
“I’m leaving.” Crossing her legs and rising with cool composure, she announced, “You have three days. I want my eight million dollars and my mother’s house returned to me, in full. If not—well, you’ll see.”
Leaving the Sterling family in utter chaos, Anastasia swept out without a backward glance.
Halfway home, she spotted a little flower shop and, on a whim, pulled over.
By the time she arrived at Rosewood Manor, an hour had passed.
“Ma’am! You’re finally back—” Fiona hurried up to greet her at the door.
“What’s wrong?” Anastasia’s heart skipped a beat at the anxious look on Fiona’s face.
“Mr. Harrison Sterling is a bit upset…” Fiona said in a low voice.
