She let out a sigh of relief and shifted a little, whispering, “Honey, that hurts.”
There was a hint of grievance in her voice.
Harrison released his grip.
When he saw the slender wrist he had squeezed turning flushed and red, his jaw tensed.
The day before school started, Anastasia still hadn’t said anything about her plans. After seeing Harrison’s reaction earlier, she’d already given up on the idea of staying on campus. Living at home would make the daily commute more of a hassle, but what mattered more to her was Harrison’s feelings.
Yet, just after dinner, Harrison surprised her by asking, “School starts tomorrow?”
Assuming he was just making conversation, Anastasia nodded.
But then he said, “Go pack your things.”
“Huh?” She looked up in surprise, wondering if she’d misheard.
Harrison stood from the table, tall and imposing, so she had to crane her neck just to meet his gaze.
His face was unreadable. His tone was calm. “Four hours is a long way.”
It took her a moment to realize what he meant. Anastasia’s eyes lit up; she jumped to her feet and hugged him tightly. “Honey, you’re the best!”
She really didn’t mind the commute, or even the idea of not living on campus, but the fact that he was willing to compromise for her touched her deeply.
Harrison lowered his gaze, looking at the cheerful girl in his arms, but said nothing.
Anastasia all but bounced away to pack her things.
She didn’t have much, so it didn’t take long. She only planned to use the dorm as a place to crash between classes; whenever possible, she would come back to Rosewood Manor. After all, how could she possibly leave her husband alone here and feel at ease?
The next morning, it was time to head to campus.
Anastasia hesitated for a long time before finally running to Harrison’s study. “Honey, can you drive me to school?”
She stood in front of him, all bright eyes and hopefulness, her gaze fixed on him with open expectation.
Harrison paused.
