Penelope grew even angrier. “That bitch Anastasia—let her try flirting with Aaron again, I dare her!”

Anastasia had guessed right; Penelope’s animosity was all about Aaron.

She’d discovered that Aaron actually liked Anastasia.

Penelope sighed, then continued, “Shirley, you’re new to Fairhaven, so you don’t know—Anastasia is a master at winning people over. She has Mr. Lancaster wrapped around her little finger.”

“I’d suggest you stop picking fights with her. Otherwise, Mr. Lancaster is going to be angry with you—and he’ll only dote on Anastasia even more…”

Her words were meant to sound soothing, but instead, they only fanned the flames of Shirley’s resentment. If anything, she now despised Anastasia even more.

Shirley snapped, “So what if I want to give her a hard time? Am I supposed to be afraid of her? I swear, I’ll make sure she’s out of Kingsbridge University—and out of Fairhaven for good!”

A sly smile tugged at the corners of Penelope’s lips.

But outwardly, she just looked helpless, offering a gentle suggestion. “Well, if that’s how you feel, Shirley, then you’ll need to think of a way to get Anastasia out of Kingsbridge University with no room for complaint. That way, even if she tries to run to Mr. Lancaster, she won’t have anything to accuse us of. We’ll be in the clear…”

Shirley’s eyes narrowed as a wicked idea took shape in her mind.

Meanwhile, Anastasia had no clue what was brewing on Penelope’s side, nor did she care.

She glanced at the clock and realized she’d been delayed by almost twenty minutes. There was a missed call from Harrison flashing on her phone—her heart skipped a beat.

“I have to go!”

She barely had time to toss that over her shoulder to Juliet and the others before dashing off.

She and Harrison had plans to go out to dinner tonight!

Watching Anastasia’s hurried retreat, Maggie asked without thinking, “Is something urgent going on with Anastasia?”

Juliet gave a sheepish smile. “She’s probably worried my cousin-in-law is waiting for her.”

Maggie and Sandra immediately caught on.

“Anastasia and her husband are so sweet together!” Maggie couldn’t help gushing.
