I looked at her, a confused look in my eyes, and I knew she could see it. It made her sigh and lower her gaze.

“There are spies everywhere,” she explained. “My mate uncovered a lot of secrets these last few days, and unfortunately, this hospital isn’t safe. Alpha Levi has planted a lot of spies around the Silver Crescent pack, most of whom are in this hospital.”

My heart stopped. I already knew Levi planted spies, but does she think these spies somehow got to me?

She paused for a moment, like she was trying to figure out if she should tell me a secret or not.

She eventually sighed, relenting to her own thoughts.

“You should know… we suspect foul play…” she told me gently.

I wanted to ask her, “Foul play?” But I couldn’t speak. I just stared at her, dumbfounded. The question must have been on my lips and in my eyes, because she answered it.

“I have reason to believe that those who aided you when you first got here weren’t looking out for your well-being. They should never have given you medication like this, knowing that you are pregnant. No safe meds would sedate you in such a way. Though I know you are conscious, you are in fact sedated. I’m hoping the IV drip that I give you next will clear up your system and make it so you can at least speak again. Some further testing will determine for sure what you were given.”

My eyes were wide… or at least I think they were. I couldn’t actually feel them to know for sure. But I was in a state of shock, and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to talk even if I wanted to. So, that’s the reason my entire body had locked down and wouldn’t do as I was saying… it was because the doctors had sedated me…

“It’ll be okay, though,” Eliza assured me. “I’m here now, and I’ll do everything in my power to keep you and the baby safe.”

Without another word, she left the room.

My heart dropped into my stomach.

“Moonshade?” I asked. “What is that?”

It felt like the air had been forced out of my lungs as I struggled to take in my next breath.
