What happens if my mate ISN’T an Alpha heir and I don’t have any other skills BUT to run a packhouse How is that fair to me?” she asks him, then turns to me. “Or you? What if you end up mated to someone like Christian? A second son What then? I mean, maybe if your mate lives a life like Christian is right now, that would work. You could help manage a pack while you protect the Alpha herr and help prepare them for their future. But what if your mate goes into finance or teaches at the Academy? Then what are you going to do?” she asks me

“I have no idea.” I say softly. It’s the first time that someone has presented another option in my life and Sebastiana isn’t wrong. What if I am mated to a second son? Or maybe not an Alpha at all. What would I do? What skills would I bring to that mate bond?

“Maybe start thinking about it. When do you go to the Academy?” she asks me

“Enya hasn’t decided that she wants to go to the Academy, Sebi,” Christian says. I turn and look at him. “We’re still talking about it.”

“Well, if I were you, I’d seriously consider it I mean, you may get hucky, and your mate will be an Alpha heir. But what if he isn’t?” she

Alpha Christina looks at me. “You and Christian don’t talk over whiskey at night?” she asks me.

“I think he does with Shane. He’s good about giving us individual time. Like I said, he’s pretty perfect.”

“Oh, please. My brother is FAR from perfect,” Sebastiana says. should join me and Mom for whiskey talk. You don’t have to drink, but it’s kind of a family tradition. We have a night cap and talk about our day or anything that’s bothering us. Like, I want to make sure you know that I didn’t mean anything by my comment earlier. Everyone who knows me will tell you I don’t have filter. If it pops into my head, it comes right out of my mouth.”

“It’s okay. The way you talk about other options in life, well, I’ve just never really considered it. My mother expected me to become a Luna so that’s what she trained me to be.”

I follow them to Alpha Christina’s room. She apparently brought her own whiskey, and I notice it’s the same brand that I’ve seen in

Christian’s room.

She pours each of us a glass and we each take a seat. I sit in a chair, and they sit on the love seat.

“So, you want to tell me what that was about earlier?” Alpha Christina asks her daughter.

“I wanted to find out if Shane and I were compatible so we can be partners at the Academy.”
