Chapter 73

Christian looks thoughtful. “If I do my job well, he might. But remember, Sebi has been practicing for the Academy since she was born. Shane hasn’t, and everything that’s happened here will delay him moving forward for a little while.”

“Speaking of that, did you figure out what’s going on with the finances?” I ask him. He hadn’t mentioned that to me before.

“We’re meeting after lunch. How was the ‘gem tour‘ by the way?” he asks his parents, grinning.

“Shane pointed out some areas where there might be some hidden gems. I’m taking your mother to go searching for them after dinner tonight,” Alpha Sebastian says, grinning at his mate.

Since I know what this means now, I blush, thinking about what ‘gems‘ he’s looking for.

“Hopefully we’ll find what we’re looking for in the financials and then, tomorrow, if you’d like, you can interview Dorian with Shane and I,” Christian says to Alpha Sebastian.

Alpha Sebastian gets a nearly feral smile on his face. “We should include your mother. Men like Dorian always underestimate her.”

Alpha Christina grins at Christian. “Yes, they do.”

okay with it. I’m pretty sure if I said, “Hey I want to fuck Enya’s brains

and ruin her for anyone else but me for the rest of her life, it would be a problem.

So, rather than dwell on my sister dragging Shane off to do whatever it is that she’s going to do with him, I focus on what I’m here to focus on; making sure these two young Alphas are safe and that this pack is

secure.

After lunch, my parents and I head to the Alpha office. I don’t call it my office because it’s not. I’m temporary. This is Shane’s office, he’s just not willing to claim it yet.

As we walk, my mother slides her arm through mine. “So, what’s going on between you and Enya?”

I look at my mother who gives me a ‘don’t bother lying to me‘ look. When I look at my father he shrugs and looks away like, ‘you’re on your own, kid‘. Great.

I sigh. There’s no option here but the truth. Anything else is wasting time because my father is right. My mother can sniff out a lie from a mile away and my sister got her ‘wolf with a bone‘ mentality from my mother. She doesn’t stop until she’s gotten to the bottom of the issue and rooted out the problem.

“I have very strong feelings for her,” I say.

“How strong? Mate bond/strong?” she asks.

“I don’t know. I’ve haven’t met my fated mate, remember?” I ask in a tone that’s a bit too snarky and has my mother’s eyes narrowing on me.

“Explain it to me,” she says, her voice just above growl level. Unlike my sister, I don’t push my parents‘ buttons. I never have. So, I’m unused to hearing my mother become so assertive in our conversations.

I sigh again, deciding for the whole truth.

“I want her,” I say, my voice coming out in a possessive growl

This time, even my father’s head snaps over to look at me and my mother looks at him.

“Mate bond?” she asks him.

“Very likely,” he says.
