“Yes, but even if it is, I’m her guardian. I can’t act on it, no matter how desperate I am. I want her every fucking minute of every fucking day. And it’s not like she’s making it easy on me. Last night she asked me to kiss her so I could keep her sadness away. I got so lost in the kiss it was over an hour before I pulled away,” I say, ready for both my parents to tell me that I’m acting irresponsibly and that I need to take this job more seriously.

When neither of them say anything, I look at them.

“That sounds very similar to a mate bond, Christian. You’re both Alphas. You’re eighteen and she’s close to being eighteen. You could be feeling the pull to her because of that,” he says.

“But what if I’m wrong? What if we’re not mates? It’s not okay for me to act on my feelings for her. I’m in a power position. That could be construed as impropriety and using my power to influence her into having sex with me.”

“True. And that is something to keep in mind. But the reality is, if she is your fated mate, then she could be feeling the same pull to you,” my father says.

“And let’s be honest, it’s obvious she wants you too,” my mother says.

“She said that?” I ask, jumping on her words.

“She didn’t have to, Christian. It’s obvious in every interaction she has with you,” my mother says.

I look at her a moment, before the reality of my situation settles in.

“It used to pull automatically into this financial program, but now it’s missing.”

“Yes. Shane and I have been looking into that,” I say, going over and pulling the manual forms that Enya gave to Dorian.

“After her parents passed away, Dorian asked for the inventory to be manual. Shane and I have been trying to reconcile the amounts, but we haven’t been able to make it work.”

“Does Enya keep accurate records of her orders?” she asks distractedly, looking over the figures.
