Chapter 531 The Game Behind the Game
Sierra accepted Matco’s kindness with a nod.
She was worried that someone might try to tamper with Jonathan’s own businesses, so she reminded Mateo and the others to stay alert.
“And you all need to be careful too.”
They were too closely tied to Jonathan. She feared they might be dragged into this as well.
From a certain angle, their families were aligned with the Wynn family, part of the same camp.
Even Stone and the others hadn’t thought of it that way. They had assumed this was just a duel between Jonathan and Victor, never realizing there were deeper layers. Now, their expressions turned grave.
“Sierra, we’ll head out first,” Mateo said. He still needed to explain the situation to his own family.
Sierra nodded again, repeating her warning for them to stay safe.
By the time she finished dealing with everyone, she was exhausted. At Susie’s urging, she went to rest.
But she only slept for two hours before waking. When she got up, Susie was in the kitchen preparing a few light dishes. Chase and Jose had already gone to the group headquarters – with Jonathan gone, they needed to keep the staff steady.
“Here, eat something,” Susie said.
Sierra had only managed some soup in the morning. She still didn’t feel hungry, but she forced herself to eat a little.
After half a bowl, she set her chopsticks down.
Susie knew she was making herself eat and didn’t push her. “If Jonathan had already made preparations, he’s not going to be in real danger.”
Sierra had only learned from Jonathan’s closest aides yesterday that he’d set up plenty of contingency plans. Even so, she couldn’t shake her unease.
Still, the lawyer’s latest update was reassuring: Jonathan was doing well. No one had made things difficult for him even his accommodations were different from the others. The only restriction was no outside contact for now.
—
In truth, Jonathan’s situation was even better than that.
They wanted his cooperation, and he was giving it, all with a calm and courteous manner. With his identity and status, no one dared lay a hand on him.
Seeing which two departments had moved against him, he could already guess who was behind it.
The answer surprised him. At first, he’d thought it was the Goodman family. But it turned out to be someone else entirely…
If it was this person, things could get tricky.
Now it wasn’t just a matter between him and Victor there was much more at stake.
The lawyer had mentioned what had happened at the old house that those people had dared to go and Jonathan regretted not clearing out those parasites carlier.
