The high-speed train ride would take a little over four hours. Tara plugged in her earphones, letting the music soothe her frayed nerves.

Lance's call earlier had shaken her to the core. She couldn't relax right away.

The next morning, Betty knocked on Shawn's door. She entered at his "Come in," carrying three elegant gift bags. One of them looked familiar.

She placed the million-dollar necklace on the coffee table in front of him. "Mr. Wilhelm, Tara asked me to give this to you."

Betty didn't know what was inside. Tara had simply told her to deliver it.

Shawn glanced at the bag. "Is Tara off today?"

Betty wasn't surprised he didn't know Tara had quit. She was just a housekeeper, and he hadn't been involved in her dismissal.

"Tara already quit," Betty explained.

Shawn paused, his tone calm. "She quit?"

Betty nodded. "Yes, she left the villa last night and asked me to make sure you got this."

He was silent for a moment, then said, "I understand. You can go."

Betty nodded and left the room. She headed next door to Soren's room.

Soren had just woken up. Thinking it was Tara knocking, he opened the door, only to find Betty standing there. His expression darkened instantly.

"What is it?"

The impatience in his voice and on his face unnerved Betty. She immediately handed him a gift bag and said, "Mr. Farrell, Tara asked me to give this to you."

Soren assumed it was a gift from Tara, thinking she was too shy to give it to him herself and had sent someone instead. He took the bag and said, "Tell Tara to come see me here."

Betty looked confused.

"M-Mr. Farrell—" Before she could explain, he shut the door.

Though he tried to appear unaffected, Soren was keen to see what Tara had given him. He gingerly opened the bag, his eyes landing on a familiar-looking car key.

Soren's smile fell away upon recognition. His expression darkened, and he stormed out of the room.

A sound from down the hallway caught Betty's ear right as she was about to rap on Lance's door. Soren had emerged from his room down the hall and was heading in her direction.

A fresh wave of fright hit Betty. Soren's face was downright menacing. Could he really have disliked Tara's gift?

"Is Tara downstairs?" he asked.

Betty shook her head. "Tara quit. She left last night."

His jaw tightened. "Who quit? Who allowed her to leave?"

"T-Tara," Betty stammered, intimidated by his frightening expression.

Without another word, Soren went downstairs, intent on confronting Terence for answers. He hadn't been aware Tara had quit or left the previous night.

Every step resonated with his building fury as he marched to find Terence.

"Terence, why did Tara quit?" His voice was low but seething. Who let her go without his permission?

The stormy look on his face startled Terence.

Terence hesitated briefly before answering, "Mr. Swain said to let her go immediately."

Soren's eyebrow arched in surprise. It was Lance? He asked nothing further, simply turning to leave.
