Shawn looked at the résumé he had opened in his hands. He stared at the woman, who was smiling gently and serenely, in the photo through his glasses.

Welcome dinners for new hires were a common practice at companies he had acquired. He knew Tara hadn't been telling the truth yesterday. What he hadn't expected was that he had gone there for the sake of a housekeeper. On top of that, he had done unspeakable things with her in bed!

"Mr. Wilhelm, should we—"

Shawn knew what he was about to say and raised his hand to cut him off. He had no interest in Tara and had already settled the matter with money. Presumably, she had enough sense not to bother him further.

As night fell and with her departure set for the next day, Tara didn't bother cooking. She planned to eat at the diner downstairs.

She pressed the elevator button, and it happened to show it was descending from the 29th floor while the other three elevators remained stationary. Before she could think more, the elevator doors opened with a ding, and inside stood a tall, handsome man.

Lance was quietly watching her.

Tara froze and quickly avoided his gaze. "I-I'll take the next one."

"Are you afraid of me? Why?" Lance asked coldly.

His question flustered her. Not wanting him to notice anything was off, she had no choice but to hurry into the elevator.

"No. It's just that when I worked at the villa, I heard you didn't like sharing an elevator with others," she said, trying to sound calm.

Lance didn't ask anything else, but Tara could feel his gaze fixed on her the entire time. As soon as the doors opened, she quickly walked out and headed for the diner.

Even inside, she remained nervous. But then she remembered that since the plot had already been disrupted, there was no chance they would actually remember. Only then did she finally relax. Now, all she had to do was wait for tomorrow and leave with a peace of mind.

Because she had run into Lance on the way down, she practically flew home after dinner. She rushed into the elevator and headed upstairs as fast as she could.

The next morning, Tara's high-speed train ticket was for 9:00 am, so she needed to take the subway over an hour in advance to get there.

She wheeled her light suitcase downstairs and headed toward the subway station. Just as she stepped out of the wealthy gated community, Leslie happened to be driving by. He was there to pick something up for Lance.

When he spotted Tara with a suitcase in tow, he pulled over in confusion and watched her go.

"So, she really lives here," he muttered.
