Tara tried to stop Soren, but it was too late. With the two large bags in hand, he stepped into her house for the first time. He looked around and found the decoration refreshing. He then opened the fridge and put the items away as if he were the man of the house.

Tara shoved Soren out of the door. He half-smirked, clearly enjoying the treatment of being nudged along by her and the unexpected physical contact.

More than 20 days passed, and Tara was still avoiding Soren. There had been no further developments between them. Whenever she saw him, she would immediately run back into her cottage and slam the door shut.

Tara figured he should be close to giving up, so she became even more determined to avoid him. Soren was in no hurry to talk to her. Every time she ran, he never chased after her.

About a week later, Tara stood by the window, thinking Soren must be gone by now. He had only booked the room the day before. She hadn't seen him at all yesterday or this morning.

Just then, Mandy knocked on her door, looking weary and worn. Tara went downstairs to open the door.

In just a dozen or so days, Mandy looked visibly worse. Tara invited her in to talk and poured her a glass of warm water.

"Tara, you might not be able to rent this house much longer," Mandy said.

"Did something happen?" Tara asked softly, thinking something big must have happened for Mandy to want to sell the cottage.

Mandy sighed and said, "Word is, the entire area will be developed into a golf course. They've offered us a decent price, but it's still a heavy loss for us."

Tara was surprised by the sudden news. This place was near a scenic area with decent foot traffic. If it were developed into a golf course, it would definitely come with a large hotel, so a project like this wouldn't lose money.

Unable to accept the news, Mandy let out another deep sigh. "We make our living off tourism here. If the land and the houses are gone, we'll have nothing left."

Moreover, the place was filled with memories, making it hard for them to part with.

Tara didn't know how to comfort her. All she could do was listen.

"They promised us they wouldn't develop this area," Mandy muttered in confusion. "And that was why we built our houses here. I never thought news like this would suddenly come out of nowhere."

Tara hesitated before going back into her home and locking the door.

That afternoon, Elaine came by to vent about the situation. "Judy's been really upset since she heard about the golf course development. The guesthouse meant everything to them. They had planned to spend the rest of their lives living off it, but it seemed like fate had other plans."

Every word Tara heard weighed heavier on her heart. She was already the type to overthink and stress herself out, especially when it came to something like this. In fact, the guilt she was feeling right now nearly overwhelmed her.
