Raymond had not expected his reaction to be so obvious. He rubbed his nose, looking a little sheepish. “Was I?”

“Pathetic.” Julian shot him a sideways glance and did not linger. “I’m taking Sydney home. Nathan has already followed Tristan with people. If you need anything, contact him directly.”

In truth, Julian had not planned to let Tristan leave tonight. Flint’s intervention had been unexpected.

Still, if they could trace Flint through Tristan, that outcome would not be bad.

Raymond understood that Julian had left a back door open. He nodded. “Got it.”

Diana, however, still worried about Sydney. She walked them to the car and spoke to Julian in a low voice. “Tristan’s situation is tricky. Do you really have time to take care of Sydney? If not, I can bring her to Seraph Villa in a few days.”

The truth was not public yet, so she could not make that decision outright..For so many years, Julian truly had been the one by Sydney’s side.

Julian’s temple twitched. He refused at once. “I have time. I’ll take good care of her. Don’t worry.”

Left with no choice, Diana reminded Sydney of a few things. As she reached to close the door, Sydney spoke. “Diana, thank you.”

Diana’s eyes stung without warning. “It’s what I should do.”

Then, a little hurried, she added, “All right. Go home. If I have time tomorrow, I’ll come see you.”

Sydney acknowledged her. Diana closed the door.

As the car pulled away, Sydney watched Diana’s slender figure recede in the mirror. A strange ache settled in her chest.

Julian squeezed her hand. “You thank her, but not me?”

Sydney replied, “I could knock that man out because Diana gave me a silver needle.”

The down jacket Diana had brought to the terrace concealed a needle in the cuff. The bespectacled man had searched the pockets

and missed the sleeve.

Julian understood at once, “I didn’t expect the two of you to coordinate like sisters.”

“Of course…” The words slipped out before Sydney could stop them. She could not help thinking how nice it would be if Diana truly were her sister.

Then she remembered what had been weighing on her. “How is Eliana? Can Alan handle everything-”

“That’s been taken care of. You don’t need to worry,” Julian interrupted gently.

He rubbed her head and then said, more slowly, “I gave the antidote to Alan. Eliana should be discharged tomorrow.”

Sydney froze, then lit up with shock and joy. “How did you get the antidote?”

Julian hesitated. When he met her bright eyes, he chose honesty. “I got it from Caleb.”

She paused. Even in her exhaustion, she understood the implication. “Eliana’s poisoning had something to do with him?”

“He didn’t poison her,” Julian said. “But the details are complicated.”

He hesitated again.

Sydney remembered that Caleb had come to rescue her as well. She pressed her lips together. “Then let’s keep our distance from

now on.”

Chapter 618

Caleb was not a true villain. Still, everyone had selfishness, and his had crossed her line.

Different paths meant there was no need to walk together.

Julian caught the flicker of dimness in her eyes. “Does that make you sad?”
