"Miss Helen Parker?" Diana asked the question before she could stop herself.

The maid nodded, and Diana's brow furrowed. "Tell her I'm busy."

Cleaning up Leon's mess, or the Kingston family's, was not her responsibility. Finishing dinner in peace mattered far more.

Florence studied her reaction. Once the maid had stepped out of earshot, she spoke. "Leon's secretary?"

"Yes." Diana didn't hide anything from her mother. "I told Grandpa about the two of them."

Telling Albus meant telling the Kingston elders. A marriage this advantageous had been ruined by Leon's own hand. The elders would never let the matter pass quietly, and Helen was the first to bear the consequences.

Diana simply hadn't expected Helen to appear at her door.

Florence's expression darkened. "If that woman thought coming here was a good idea, she has no sense at all. You were right not to go out. Eat your dinner."

She reached over and placed more food into Diana's plate.

They had barely exchanged a few more words when the maid returned, visibly uncomfortable. "Miss, the young woman... She's knelt down at the front gate. She said she'll wait as long as it takes, and you can see her whenever you're free."

"Go get my phone." Florence pointed toward the sitting room, her expression turning cold. "If she wants to kneel, she should be kneeling at the Kingston estate. What does she think she's doing at our gate? Who wronged her?"

The maid immediately turned toward the sitting room.

Diana raised a hand. "Leave it."

She looked at Florence with calm composure. "She's the one kneeling. Why are you in such a hurry?"

Then she gave the maid a quiet instruction. "Go to the back and bring Nina over."

Nina entered through the front courtyard, confusion written across her face.

"Miss Diana, why is Miss Parker kneeling at the gate? I asked her what she wanted, but she wouldn't say a word."
