Diana leaned back in her chair and studied her brother. Her expression had relaxed considerably since a moment ago.

She picked up the glass of water from the table, took a sip, and spoke in an unhurried tone. "The people Leon has been reaching out to are Dad's old subordinates from his days in Brimcrest. Now that Dad has been transferred overseas, Leon sees it as the perfect opportunity."

Raymond frowned. "What does he want from them? To counterbalance the Kingston family? Or use their connections to make trouble for our family?"

Diana had already seen through his intentions. "Both, but mostly the second. He's not in a good position right now. The Kingstons aren't happy with him, and the Jillsons certainly won't speak up for him. He has fewer and fewer cards left to play.

"The only one he still has is the title of 'the Hutton family's son-in-law.' Even though we've already signed the divorce agreement, as long as it hasn't been finalized, that's still how outsiders see him."

Raymond leaned back in his chair, tapped his fingers twice against his knee, and his gaze darkened. "So he wants to use that identity to lay the groundwork before the cooling-off period ends. By the time the divorce is finalized, he'll already have established himself."

Diana nodded. "Exactly."

Raymond cursed under his breath. "He really has this whole thing planned out."

"Except, he overlooked one thing," Diana said, her voice turning noticeably colder.

Raymond looked up at her.

"Since Dad left Brimcrest, I've stayed in contact with those former subordinates." She met his gaze calmly. "Whatever dealings they have with Leon are nothing more than polite formalities. None of them will actually do anything for him."

Raymond blinked in surprise before a genuine smile spread across his face. Admiration shone in his eyes. "Well, I guess I worried for nothing. You already had everything under control."

Diana replied flatly, "I'm not about to let a soon-to-be ex-husband reach that far."

Her phone vibrated softly. A message from Nina appeared.

Nina: [Leon has invited several of your father's former subordinates to dinner tomorrow at the White Crane under the pretext of discussing a project in Brimcrest.]
