Nathalie nearly tripped as her knees buckled.

She spun around and made straight for the pharmacy. With a furtive glance, she bought a pregnancy test, slipped it into her bag, and hurried home, locking herself in the bathroom.

A few minutes later, a gut-wrenching wail echoed from behind the door.

Staring at the unmistakable double lines on the test, Nathalie felt her whole body go weak.

“How is this possible?”

“I’m… pregnant?”

Worst of all, she didn’t even know who the father was.

Her first instinct was to get an abortion. But a thought flashed through her mind—what if it was Morris’s child?

If it was his, she wasn’t sure she could go through with it.

Clutching at her hair, Nathalie paced anxiously around the room. Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, a realization dawning on her. She called out, voice trembling, “Lizzy!”

Lizzy hurried in, breathless. “Sis?”

Nathalie sat down heavily on the bed, her eyes glassy and unfocused as she stared at Lizzy. “That night—the night I was drugged—was I… you know… soaked?”

A flicker of panic crossed Lizzy’s face, and she quickly looked away, refusing to meet Nathalie’s eyes.

Nathalie sprang up and grabbed Lizzy by the shoulders, desperate. “Lizzy, who was with me that night?”

Lizzy shook her head frantically. She’d promised Morris she wouldn’t say a word about what happened. But how could she lie to her own sister? Torn in two, Lizzy’s mind seemed to crash—caught in a loop she couldn’t escape. With a small shudder, she suddenly collapsed to the floor, unconscious.

Nathalie could only stare in disbelief.

Her blood ran cold, terror gripping her so tightly she could barely breathe. When she finally came to her senses, she let out a raw, anguished scream.

“Lizzy!”
