In the shadows, camera shutters clicked rapidly. 

I looked down at her, unmoved, and said softly: 

"What if the report is fake?" 

Lily froze for a split second, then quickly wiped her tears. 

"How could it be fake? Are you saying Jack's pain is fake?"

"That he's faking it? That's impossible!"

"He's a good kid—he never cries or causes trouble."

"You can't just flip the script to avoid taking responsibility!" 

She cried dramatically, playing the role of the devoted mother just trying to protect her child. 

"Ms. Carter." 

A calm, gentle voice broke through the tension. 

I turned to see Dr. Evelyn Wright, the hospital director, walking toward us. 

I couldn't help but smile. 

"Dr. Wright, thank you for coming." 

Ethan frowned. 

"Why did you call the director?"

"Are you trying to humiliate us in front of everyone?!" 

Lily's expression shifted slightly, her nervousness showing. 

"You said it wouldn't be a problem!"

"Now the director's involved—what am I supposed to do?!" 

Ethan looked stunned. 

"What? The report is fake?"

"So Jack's stomachache was fake too?" 

"Lily, what the hell is going on?!"

Lily bit her lip, shaking her head at Ethan. 

"Ethan, it wasn't me... I don't know what's going on either!"

"It must be a mistake in the hospital's system!"
