"I was just teasing you, there's no mysterious guy showing up every day to claim her. But if you keep dragging your feet like this, I guarantee you'll regret it for the rest of your life!"

She threw him a meaningful look, then turned and walked toward the hospital room at the very end of the corridor.

"Follow me, it's on this floor."

Jerome quickened his pace to catch up, though a shadow of confusion crossed his face.

This entire floor was dedicated to the pediatric ward. Even if Kimberley had been hospitalized, she shouldn't be staying here.

But Lizetta looked so incredibly certain that she couldn't possibly be mistaken.

Harboring his doubts, Jerome followed her to the door of the room. Lizetta stopped, making no move to enter.

Instead, she stepped aside and gestured to the door.

"This is the room, and she should be inside. Go on in, Jerome, I'm not going to stick around and be a third wheel."

Lizetta turned to leave, but to her surprise, Jerome hesitated and actually turned around to follow her.

Lizetta was speechless. She truly hadn't expected someone as usually decisive and methodical as Jerome to chicken out at a moment like this.

She glared at him. "Go inside, why are you walking away?"

Exasperated, she reached out and physically shoved him back toward the door. Realizing she had misunderstood, Jerome held up his hands in defense.

"I didn't bring anything with me. Who visits a patient empty-handed? I should at least go downstairs and buy some flowers."
