"Director Glenn got fired by the company," Milka casually mentioned to her husband over dinner.
Mars, halfway through his meal, paused as he remembered his completely unthreatening rival. "What happened?"
Milka took another bite of rice. "I complained to the boss, obviously."
Mars was amused. "Well, look at my wife, snitching to the boss."
Milka kept eating her scrambled eggs and tomatoes. "His character is trash, and he disgusted me. The day before I resigned, I sent the boss an email with a full explanation, detailing all the shady little things Director Glenn had been doing lately, not to mention his sheer incompetence.
When the boss called me that day, he asked about those things. I guess they launched an investigation and found the proof. I heard from a former colleague this morning that he was officially let go by headquarters, and they're bringing in a new director."
Even though he had essentially forced Milka to resign, Director Glenn didn't exactly get a happy ending either.
Mars simply said, "He deserved it. People who plot against others eventually get what's coming to them."
Milka added, "I'm guessing headquarters is sending Fielding over. With everything that happened with me, they're probably terrified of sending another local who'll just get married, have kids, and quit. So they're parachuting Fielding in.
If it's really her, I'll have to make a trip back to Havenbrook. I promised to buy her coffee."
Mars nodded. "No problem. If I'm free, I'll go with you. And don't book a hotel. Roberto and Leah are sitting at home every day just waiting for their daughter-in-law to come visit."
Mars had also returned to his training. When he first arrived at the base, he tried to throw his weight around, only to get thoroughly put in his place by Jupiter. "You little punk, get your ass out there and train."
Scolded by his father-in-law, Mars adjusted his cap. "You really are my boss."
In the freezing cold, he celebrated another birthday, receiving a mountain of presents, many of them flown in from all over the world. His Kitty Mom was absolutely thrilled, but for some unknown reason, she suddenly grew a conscience and declared, "I have to save all of these for my precious boy. They're his gifts, after all."
And yet, even though it was supposed to be his birthday, his dad had taken him out to buy a present for Mia instead. "Dad, why are we buying Mom a present on my birthday?"
"Because without Mia, there would be no you."
Since he was tiny, Andre had been training his son to have an impeccable eye for picking out jewelry for women. "Dad, this one isn't pretty. We should buy Mom the yellow one."
"Why?"
"You just don't get it, Dad. Yellow is pretty. Trust me."
