Once they finished talking, the two friends ate fruit and scrolled through their phones together. "This outfit is so cute. I really want to buy something like this for Henry this year."

"Mia, look at this jacket in my favorites. Do you think it would suit Wayne?"

"The temperature's dropping, so Andre really needs a new winter coat. This year, I'm planning to buy him a longer one. He used to always try to act cool and insist on wearing trench coats, but they say this winter is going to be significantly colder than usual, and the snow came earlier, too. No matter what, I'm forcing him into a long winter coat this year." Mia roasted her husband right in front of his entire family.

Andre just listened quietly, not daring to interject or defend himself. He wasn't trying to act cool; that was just his style.

"I'll get Henry a black coat too. It won't show dirt easily, and he can match his dad."

Molly chimed in, "I bought Chad a mid-length coat, so zipping it up won't restrict his movement. But I bet he won't wear it. He'll just put it on when he leaves the house to pacify me, then rip it off the second he gets to the station."

"Don't worry," Mia assured her. "Once the New Year holidays roll around, he'll be stuck with you twenty-four hours a day. He'll have to wear it whether he wants to or not."

Chad rubbed his temples and decided to go look for his son. "Wayne, what are you doing?"

Out in the courtyard, little Wayne was having the time of his life with his older cousin. The two boys had secretly smuggled their grandfather's cane outside. With their tiny hands flushed red from the cold, they were aggressively packing snow over the cane, trying to bury it completely.

When Chad stepped outside, he saw both kids sniffling from the freezing air. "Uncle Chad, don't tell Grandpa!" Henry pleaded.

After ensuring the cane was sufficiently hidden, the boys ran back inside. "Grandpa!" "Grandpa!"

Hansen immediately set his phone down. "Oh, my sweet grandsons! Why are you calling me?"

Chad was chuckling in the background when Hansen suddenly realized something. "Where's my cane?"

Andre reached out, feeling the empty spot beside him, and turned over. "Mia, what's wrong?"

"Where do we keep the spare keys to the bedrooms? The boys' door is locked somehow. I wanted to check if they kicked off their blankets, but I can't get in." Wearing her nightgown, Mia sat on the edge of the bed beside her husband, muttering in self-doubt. "Did I accidentally lock it when I left after putting them to sleep?"

Andre sat up, grabbed his robe, and slid out of bed. "You didn't lock it. That little brat was faking being asleep. Once he tricked you into leaving, he got up and locked the door himself. Hansen terrified them earlier by saying he'd steal their toys and bury them in the snow."

Andre headed downstairs to the storage room, retrieved the household spare keys, found the one for the nursery, and unlocked the door.

"This kid... he double-locked it?" Mia said, listening to the heavy click of the mechanism.

Pushing the door open, they found the two boys sprawled out in their sleep. Their blankets were completely tossed onto the floor. Henry's pajama pants were hiked up to his knees, and Wayne was dangling precariously close to the edge of the bed.
