Asher finally remembered that he had only told the guys about her and hadn't formally introduced her to everyone yet. He pointed at the slender woman beside him. "Laurel. Just call her Laurel. She's a mute. Can't speak a word." Asher threw out a terrible, unfunny joke.

Laurel raised her eyes and glared at Asher. "You'd better not sleep tonight, or you'll be looking for your tongue tomorrow."

Mia innocently blurted out, "Wait, she's not mute, she can speak..."

Before she could finish, she realized Asher had been intentionally talking nonsense. She quickly clamped a hand over her mouth and silently backed up until she was standing safely behind her husband. Andre watched his feisty little cat shrink back, raising an eyebrow in mild surprise.

Mia slipped her hand into her husband's. She didn't care. Her husband had the Black Pass, and if anyone dared touch her, she would just let him wipe them out.

Annie handed Laurel some fruit. "Would you like a mango?"

The woman shook her head. "No, thank you."

Asher snatched the mango and shoved it into her hand. "Your sister-in-law gave it to you, so take it and eat it."

Mr. Nettleton scoffed. "Asher, what kind of bullshit is that? What sister-in-law? Annie is your older sister-in-law. Laurel is the younger one."

Asher stood up. "Are you shameless? I'm older than you."

"Bullshit! Even if you count the time you spent in the womb, I'm still older than you."

"Nonsense. When you were still in the womb, I was already playing with guns."

Mr. Nettleton shot back, "When I was taking over territories, you were still drinking milk."

As the two brothers bickered, Laurel couldn't help but stare curiously at the arguing Asher. Was this the real him? Where was the ruthless, terrifying man who had locked her up and kept her prisoner?

Mars didn't even bother competing with them over age. "Arguing over who's older is pointless. What matters is who actually has a wife. I've got one, so I don't care about age."
