“I think so. The whole thing got swept under the rug, though. People like us aren’t supposed to know the real story.”

“Funny, I just saw Mr. Walker praising Herman the other day. Their families looked so friendly—I never would’ve guessed there was such a huge scandal brewing.”

“Why would Autumn want to hurt Anastasia, anyway? She just moved to Riverdale. How could she have made such a big enemy already?”

“Who knows? Katelyn mentioned earlier that Autumn has a daughter. That reminded me—my husband once said it all started because of her daughter.”

“I thought that was just a rumor, but if even Katelyn is saying it, maybe it’s true.”

“So who is Autumn’s daughter, then?”

Downstairs, Katelyn sat with the poise of a queen, sipping her tea and picking at some fruit.

“Mrs. Secretary, you really shouldn’t eat these,” someone piped up. “All that sugar isn’t great for you—especially while you’re pregnant. Too much, and you might have a rough time when the baby comes.”

“I’m not touching it,” Autumn replied, face frosty.

Katelyn beamed. “That’s quite the bump you’ve got! When are you due? Is it a boy or a girl? Just don’t let it be a girl—everyone says daughters take after their moms.”

If Autumn had a daughter as spiteful as herself, she’d be raising another Julie.

Autumn was practically shaking with rage.

When Katelyn dropped the clueless act, her sharp tongue was lethal.

Autumn hissed, “Katelyn, do you really think just because Mr. Walker has your back, your family can get away with anything?”

“The Salstrom family doesn’t need anyone’s protection.” Katelyn snorted. “Like mother, like daughter. I used to wonder how Julie got to be so scheming—now I see she learned from the best. You only got close to me to tear down my family and hurt my daughter-in-law. Well, forget it.”

Autumn shot back, “Your daughter-in-law was no saint either.”

“Oh, please.” Katelyn stood up. “You were the one stirring up trouble between me and my daughter-in-law. Well, we’re getting along just fine now, so don’t even try to come between us.”

“Katelyn, you’re absolutely heartless. Do you really not remember what you did? You’re the reason my daughter’s gone. Your whole family is to blame.” Autumn’s voice shook with anger. “Weren’t you the one who pushed Julie and your son together? My daughter loved Herman, and you split them up. How could you treat her like that?”

“She did that to herself,” Katelyn said coolly. “Julie was the ruthless one—she killed the old lady and still had the nerve to play innocent. You should focus on being a better person for the baby’s sake. You’re not getting any younger, Autumn. Don’t tempt fate.”
