“We’ll see. It’s not impossible,” Scott said, looking pretty pleased with himself. Sandy just got him—whether it was feelings or work, they were always on the same page. She was exactly his type.

The only problem was Juliana. That would be a tricky conversation. For now, he’d just have to play it by ear.

Carter grinned. “Looks like you’re finally in deep this time.”

Scott didn’t say a word. Herman checked his watch, then stood up. “I’ve got to pick up my wife. You guys carry on.”

Herman’s wife was his go-to excuse; it worked like a charm every single time.

Carter rolled his eyes. “Come on, Herman, you’re no fun at all. This is the biggest gossip we’ve had in ages and you’re just leaving? Aren’t you even curious what Scott’s girlfriend looks like?”

“In my eyes, nobody’s prettier than my wife,” Herman replied as he walked off. “I’m out.”

Carter waved him away. Herman was always like this.

Herman’s world basically revolved around his wife.

Whatever happened outside, he’d go home and spill it all to Anastasia.

That evening, when he picked her up from her studio, he filled her in on Scott’s new girlfriend.

Anastasia wasn’t shocked. She’d heard enough rumors to half-expect it.

“If Juliana finds out, she’ll totally lose it,” Anastasia said. “She’s really into Scott, and honestly, I think he cares about her too. If he wants to be with someone else, he should at least get a divorce first. Doing it like this…it’s a bit messed up.”

Of course, she was just venting to Herman.

“It’s not our business,” Herman replied. “Juliana’s pretty clueless anyway—not really Scott’s match.”

Anastasia shot him a look. “You sure you’re not just still mad about what she said about me last time? Herman, you really know how to hold a grudge.”

“She accused my wife. Of course, I hold a grudge,” Herman said. “Juliana’s not the brightest. The woman Scott’s with now? She’s got game. Juliana doesn’t stand a chance. Scott’s keeping her a secret, and Juliana doesn’t have a clue. If this blows up, Juliana will be the one left out in the cold.”
