I’ll go find Scott and get to the bottom of this.”

“Scott’s a coward,” Sandy shot back, voice trembling with anger. “He’s hiding from me. Men—honestly, not a single good one in the bunch. He lied about everything.”

“If he’s been treating you like this, I’m not letting it slide. I’m going to see him right now.” Sean, fuming, set down the fruit he was holding and stormed out to confront Scott.

Sandy let him go. In fact, she hoped Sean would stir things up enough to force Scott out of hiding.

Anastasia and Herman were packed up and heading to the airport with their three kids, two nannies, and Dailey—their security guy.

Dailey watched over them, while the nannies handled Emmie and Nancy, giving Herman and Anastasia a shot at some grown-up time. Paradise, their oldest, was self-sufficient enough not to need any help.

Whatever storms might be brewing back in the city, nothing was going to spoil their vacation plans.

With summer in full, sweaty swing, it only made sense to escape somewhere more comfortable—Phoenix, for a taste of that southern sun.

And as soon as Herman left, Mr. Walker got the news.

He didn’t expect this. At such a tense moment, Herman packing up the whole family for a holiday was the last move Mr. Walker saw coming.

He’d tried to orchestrate an “accident,” but Anastasia had slipped through unscathed—and Herman had responded in kind: Autumn went into early labor.

Mr. Walker had always thought Herman would have more tricks up his sleeve. Would Devin’s death make him suspicious? But instead, the whole clan just headed off on vacation.
