Lucas's expression darkened like a storm rolling in.

Like I had just said something completely unacceptable.

"Enough!" he snapped.

"Antonia, is there anything in this world you're not jealous of?"

"You've been living in the Turner estate as my wife."

"Have you ever been mistreated?"

Lila shifted slightly, slipping her arm around the one Lucas had used to grab me.

Lucas stared at me for a long moment before finally letting go.

Relief flooded through my hand, and for the first time in my life, I actually felt grateful to Lila.

But that didn't stop the rage boiling inside me.

"Being the Turner family's wife—what, is that supposed to be some kind of grand prize?"

Lucas's temper flared instantly.

He even yanked his arm away from Lila and stepped toward me, his expression dangerous.

"Antonia. As long as you're still legally my wife, I won't tolerate you speaking like this!"

I let out a bitter laugh, taking a step back.

My voice rose.

"Lucas, you're the one who chased after me!"

"You begged the entire Turner family to let me in!"

"You knelt in front of the old director and swore you'd take care of me for the rest of your life!"

"Lila and I… our relationship is complicated. I thought you understood that."

"Lately, my migraines have been acting up again."

"Maybe you could give me a massage sometime."

I smiled faintly.

Then, using every ounce of strength in my left hand, I lifted my right.

The fingers that had massaged him countless times trembled, swollen and discolored.

"Lucas, let me show you something."

Ignoring the searing pain, I grabbed my sleeve and yanked it up.
