Mrs. Austin was still waiting outside the office when she saw Dylan come out much sooner than expected. Caught off guard, she hurried over. “Dylan, you’re done already? How did the checkup go?”

Dylan ignored her completely, striding past without a word.

He was tall and walked quickly, and even with her heels clicking on the floor, Mrs. Austin couldn’t hope to keep up. After a few futile steps, she gave up chasing altogether.

With a frustrated sigh, she turned and headed back to Dr. Thomson’s office.

Clearing her throat to cover her embarrassment, she tried to sound casual. “Dr. Thomson, how did the examination go just now? Is my son really… is there a problem?”

William glanced up, his tone cool and detached. “Mrs. Austin, your son refused to let me examine him.”

“What?” Mrs. Austin nearly exploded with anger.

She never imagined her son could be so stubborn—refusing to even let a doctor take a look.

Her face clouded over. She rushed out to find Dylan, but by then, he was long gone.

Rebecca had just stepped out, planning to find William, when she nearly collided with Dylan at the corner.

For a brief second, they stared at each other. It was the first time Rebecca had ever seen Dylan’s stoic face falter like that.

What happened to him?

She figured he must have just finished with William. Judging by his expression, the news couldn’t have been good.

So she went up to him, offering a polite greeting, then asked instinctively, “Sir, did the exam… not go well?”

Dylan scowled. “Who told you I was here for a checkup?”

Rebecca couldn’t exactly say she’d heard it from William, so she mumbled, “Yesterday in the car, you said you needed to see a doctor. I just thought…”

He turned and walked away, not even glancing back.

Rebecca clutched her phone and hurried off with Isabella to find the department chair.

When they arrived at the office, they were surprised to see the young nurse from earlier already there.

Both the chair and the nurse looked visibly nervous when Rebecca and Isabella entered the room. What were they hiding?

Rebecca couldn’t help but notice the nurse’s smudged lipstick, which only fueled her suspicions.
