Steven curled his lip in a mocking smile. He’d seen this coming from the start.

“If you’d just bullied Charlotte and acted pitiful, maybe there would’ve been a way out for us. But…” He glared at Elizabeth, barely holding back his fury. “Who told you to throw away Charlotte’s medicine? Are you stupid?” Without that medicine, Charlotte wouldn’t make it past twenty. That was exactly why Nora had come back to deal with them.

Getting out? There was no chance. Not in this lifetime.

Elizabeth just cried harder. Who would’ve thought Nora would come back from the dead, all for revenge?

“It’s all Charlotte’s fault!” Elizabeth sobbed, her voice trembling as she spoke. “Olivia, you have to survive. Watch Charlotte suffer, watch her break, and see her die in agony.” Maybe once Charlotte was gone, they’d finally have a shot at getting out.

“Alright.” Olivia’s hands balled into tight fists as she looked at her defeated parents. Her eyes were red and cold. She wasn’t done with Charlotte. Not even close.

After she left the detention center, Olivia slipped back into her house and gathered up anything valuable she could find, dragging it all back to her dorm room. She did a quick count. It added up to just a few hundred thousand. Enough to keep her living comfortably for now, but nowhere near enough for the kind of money she’d need to go abroad someday.

She frowned, thinking about the jewelry she’d bought before. She opened a drawer and started digging through it. There were rings, necklaces, a diamond bracelet… In the middle of sorting, she spotted the red carnelian bracelet she’d once “picked up” from Charlotte. She held it up, turning it over in her hand. She’d looked it up online before. Even the best carnelian was only worth a few million, and this one was dull, clearly nothing special.

A wave of disappointment crossed her face as she tossed it back into the corner of the drawer.

What she didn’t notice was that, when the bracelet hit the drawer hard, a faint light flickered deep inside the cloudy gemstone. In the darkness, the glow lit up the interior, and you could just make out a thin, hidden channel inside, with a tiny stream of sparkling liquid flowing through it.
