Aloys turned to her, but the movement made him wince. His face went pale as the pain flared in his wound. “Are you sure that, if Allanson finds out about Charlotte and Mrs. W, he won’t treat Charlotte differently?”

“Treat her differently?”

Marcia blinked, caught off guard. “Grandpa’s spent forty years hung up on Mrs. W. He searched everywhere for her, only to find out she married someone else. He’s never really accepted it.”
