“Yes,” Cedric replied. As he walked past Anthony, he shot him a long, hard look, eyes burning with resentment and something even darker.

The room was dim, filled with the faint smell of medicine. Lying in bed not far away was a frail, elderly figure. Under the cold white light, Newell looked even older and sicker than Anthony remembered.

“Newell,” they both called out at the same time.

“You’re here?” Newell managed a tired smile. Beneath his blanket, his fingers curled up tight. He tried to sound strong, but his voice was hoarse. “You must be exhausted from traveling. Go get some rest, alright?”

Charlotte didn’t listen. She walked straight to his bedside, pulled back the covers, and reached for his wrist to check his pulse. For years, his health had only gotten worse, but Newell never told her what was really wrong.

“It’s the same old thing,” Newell said, pulling his hand away. He coughed quietly, still trying to smile. “We’ve eased up the search for Olivia. If we push her too far, she might destroy the bracelet.”

Charlotte nodded and sat down, picking up a glass of water and helping him drink a few sips. “Just focus on getting better. Leave Olivia to me.”
