"Give me a chance, Stella!"

Hearing his sudden words, feeling his burning body heat and his racing heart, Stella looked at him in shock, her nerves pulled taut.

"You can say the meanest things, run as far away as you want, or even hurt me until I'm bruised and battered." Roger lowered his head slightly, his handsome face filling her vision, his dark gaze intoxicatingly deep. "Stella, I thought if you truly hated me, I could let you go."

"But I can't. I just can't do it."

"You're not entirely indifferent to me, are you?"

"Since that's the case, why not give us a chance?" Roger watched her, asking at a measured pace, "Or do you think I'm too old for you?"

Come to think of it, he was several years older.

Too old?

Stella quickly shook her head.

"If that's not the reason, then what is?" Roger sat on the edge of the bed, keeping her wrapped in his arms. His gaze was sharp, leaving her nowhere to hide. "Tell me. I'm listening."

"I..." Stella looked down, biting her lip until it turned pale, a look of agony crossing her face.

There were some things she never wanted to remember for the rest of her life.

After a moment, she lowered her head despondently.

"Alright." Noticing her distress, Roger quickly intervened, gently ruffling her hair. "Tell me whenever you're ready."

"But, Stella..." Roger took a deep breath, looking at her with profound seriousness. "I like who you are right now. Whatever you were like in the past doesn't matter to me."

In the past...

Few people could accept her hideous appearance.

"You don't have to answer me right away." Roger straightened her jacket, a charming, striking smile playing on his lips. "I'll give you time to think about it."

"Can I say no?" Stella blurted out instinctively.
