“Asclepius, it really is you!”

Charlotte looked up, her eyes dark and bright, full of life for the first time in days. The young nurse’s heart, numb and quiet for so long, suddenly felt alive.

She had honestly thought she’d never see him again.

“It’s me.” Charlotte finished off the last enemy on her phone, exited the game, and stared at the nurse who was watching her with wide, unblinking eyes. In a low and calm voice, she asked, “Did you need something?”

“Yes… yes.” The nurse gripped the edge of her white coat, so nervous and excited that her hands were trembling just a little. She looked like she wanted to hide, but at the same time, like she might burst with words.

Charlotte glanced at the hospital room, searching for Anthony but not seeing him anywhere. For a moment, she looked disappointed before turning back to the nurse. “Go ahead.”

“I…” The nurse lowered her head, biting her lip, cheeks turning bright pink. She hesitated, trying to find the courage to speak.

Charlotte watched her squirm and raised her eyebrows, her voice still flat. “Is it something medical?”

“No, it’s not.” The nurse’s breathing went all uneven, and after another moment, she seemed to gather every ounce of her courage. “Asclepius… do you have a girlfriend?”

“If you don’t, can I be your girlfriend?” Her cheeks were burning, and she was practically gasping for air. “I liked you from the very first moment I saw you.”

“I know this is really sudden, but I promised myself that if I ever saw you again, I’d confess no matter what.”

“Asclepius, I like you.”

She finished her confession and hung her head, waiting for an answer. Her heart was pounding so hard she felt like it might actually leap out of her chest.

Charlotte definitely hadn’t expected this. She hadn’t expected a confession at all, let alone from another girl.

She was still trying to decide what to say when she looked up and spotted Anthony standing in the hallway. He was standing right under a bright light, its cold white glow making him look even more intimidating. Just one look sent a chill down her spine.

He must have heard everything.

“Sorry about this,” Anthony said, picking up Charlotte’s hand and pressing a soft kiss to her fingers. “Asclepius already has a boyfriend.”

Boyfriend.

The nurse’s face drained of color, then went red, then pale again. She looked like she might faint.

The person she’d been crushing on… actually liked men.

“Sorry, we’ll be going now.” Anthony’s voice was cool and polite, but he didn’t wait for a response. He just took Charlotte’s hand and hurried them out, leaving the poor nurse in shock.

In the car, Anthony sat in the back seat, his expression unreadable and his eyes locked onto Charlotte. She sat in the corner, pretending to be fascinated by her own fingers.

“So, are you going to tell me what’s up with this Asclepius thing?”
