Charlotte blinked, trying to look calm. “No idea who that is.”
Parrish leaned his chin on his hand, looking thoughtful. “If they’re showing up with L, they’ve got to be a big deal. You don’t think it’s that unbeatable Reaver everyone talks about, do you?”
“I don’t think so,” Charlotte said, glancing at him and giving a serious answer.
Shirley slipped her arm through Stella’s and spoke quietly. “We’ve got two days of field training coming up, so don’t forget to pack some extra clothes.”
“Alright.”
When field training came up, Charlotte looked at Stella, her eyes full of concern. “Will you be okay?”
Stella gave a small nod. “I’ll be fine. I’m way stronger than I was back at the sanatorium.”
“Good. Eat up and get some rest tonight. You’ll need your energy.”
Stella nodded. She and Charlotte talked for a few more minutes, and then Shirley tugged her away.
“Charlotte, are you heading back to the dorm?” Andrew asked. Parrish echoed the question.
“I’ve got something to take care of, so not yet.” Charlotte glanced at her phone. “You two go with Shirley and Stella. Do something useful for once and help them get dinner.”
Andrew stared. Parrish looked just as confused.
They exchanged a glance, both looking a little helpless. Was fetching food their only job now?
“Is there a problem?” Charlotte asked, raising her eyes when they stayed silent.
“Nope!”
Her voice snapped him out of his trance. He jerked back to life, grabbing the form, his words awkward. “That’s all. Thanks.”
He walked a couple of steps, then suddenly stopped and spun around, summoning up every bit of courage he had. “Charlotte, you were awesome in the competitions yesterday and today. Seriously cool.”
Charlotte froze, surprised.
“Never mind.” Beasley’s face was so red it was almost painful to look at. He was so nervous he nearly tripped over his own words. “I’ll, uh, see you tomorrow.”
Before Charlotte could say anything, he took off, running so fast he barely seemed to touch the ground.
What was that about?
Charlotte frowned, shook her head, and turned her focus back to her phone.
