“What do you think?” Wyatt asked.

Amber’s eyes lit up with understanding. She let out a soft sigh. “She really has changed a lot. I actually admire her now. She’s so much better than Andrea.”

Andrea might have the family name and good looks, but she was just a pampered princess, always requiring someone to spoil her. She might be fine to date, but to be Max’s wife? She just wasn’t the right fit.

“Max’s life is his own,” Wyatt said. “We can’t really get involved. He’ll just have to figure things out himself.”

Amber grinned. “If he messes this up, Grandpa’s probably going to be even more disappointed in him.”

Wyatt laughed with her.

In the back of the van, Anne was busy trying to convince Felicia to stay the night.

Felicia looked down at her daughter, taking in those big, pleading eyes. She just couldn’t bring herself to say no. She glanced over at Max.

He was watching her, his face unreadable. He didn’t say a word.

“Please, Evelynn?” Anne whispered, her voice full of hope.

Felicia looked at Anne, hesitated, and finally nodded.

Anne lit up with joy and hugged Felicia tight.

“Alright, Anne, sit down properly,” Max told her.

Anne just burrowed closer to Felicia. “No, I want to stay with Evelynn.”

Today, she was especially happy. Mandy had her mom, and she had Evelynn. She never wanted that to change.

The car rolled back to Oakridge Estate.

Anne fell asleep in Felicia’s arms before they got home.

On the way, Felicia overheard Max on the phone with Kennedy. He was invited out for drinks and agreed. After hanging up, he glanced over. “Take care of Anne tonight.”

Luke ended his call and walked over.

Max lowered the window. “What are you doing here?”

“Just had dinner nearby. I was about to head out,” Luke answered.

Anthony lived in Villa 12 at Oakridge, and Luke had run into him at the racetrack earlier that day. They ended up having dinner together.

Right then, Felicia came out of the villa. She saw Max’s car and walked over, her voice calm and straightforward. “Anne’s asleep. I have something to take care of.”

She’d wanted to stay with her daughter, but Colt had called about a work issue she needed to prepare for. Luke had also called, saying he’d been drinking and couldn’t drive. Since she was heading out anyway, she agreed to give him a ride.

She was just letting Max know. Before he could say anything, she turned to Luke. “Let’s go.”

Luke nodded and followed her.

Max stayed in his car, watching as the two of them left together.
